Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Redevelopment Plan
The Martin Luther King Redevelopment Plan has been a success in large part due to the collaborative effort between the City and the MLK Neighborhood organization. The comprehensive plan for the 26 block areas with design standards and guidelines was a team effort that involved input from several governmental agencies.
Tasks: Prepare zoning and land use base maps, conduct field survey (building condition, occupancy status), participate in the formulation of community assets and objectives, and identify target areas and strategies through charrettes and neighborhood meetings. Kaizer’s role as an assistant planner was to assist the Planning Director and Principal Planner in carrying out the above-mentioned tasks.
The Plan was adopted in 1993. The first phase of the project, the creation of a central transit-oriented development hub, is complete. The Plan has received numerous state and national planning awards.
